Jeep CJ's can benefit from full width axles for a multitude of reasons: the axles will be stronger than the OE Jeep CJ axles, the track width will increase- thus improving off camber stability, high steer options will then be available with the use of full width axles.

Poison Spyder's CJ Full Width Kit will allow you to easily swap a full width front axle under your CJ, but what else is involved?

What axles do I need?

You can go two basic directions with this: 3/4 ton full width axles (such as 10 bolts, Dana 44's, Ford 9 inch and semi-float 14 bolts) or 1 ton axles (such as Dana 60, 70 and full-float 14 bolts). Our personal theory is that if one is going through all of the work of swapping axles it would be most beneficial to skip the 3/4 ton axles and run 1 ton axles.

What type of suspension setup will I need to run?

The full width axle swap can be done with either spring-under or spring over style suspensions (spring under will require further modifications to the vehicle due to clearance issues). We always prefer properly built spring-overs. The full width axle kit also incorporates a shackle reversal- which moves the shackle to the backside of the front leaf spring. This then allows the shackle to pivot in a natural motion when the vehicle is in forward motion.

Typically if the front suspension is sprung-over the rear will need to be sprung-over and likewise if the front is sprung-under. It is not a good idea to mix and match spring-overs and spring-unders.

This is also a good time to upgrade from 2" wide springs to 2.5" wide spring in the front (the rear already has 2.5" wide springs). The wider spring will allow for a more supple ride with the same weight carrying capacity and is actually easier to utilize than 2" wide springs.

Aside from the axle and Full Width Kit, what else will I need for the front axle swap?

-Pair of leaf springs. Often we use early Wagoneer 2" lift springs or contact a custom spring company such as Alcan Spring.
- U-bolts and spring plates to mount leaf springs to axle
- One pair of shackles of your choice
- Shackle mounting plate (this is the same piece that attached the rear shackle on your CJ to the rear of your frame).
-Brake lines and fittings
-Pair of shocks, tabs to mount to axle and upper shock mount.
-Spring perches
-Steering setup. See Poison Spyder High Steer Tech, 44 High steer arms and 60 high steer.
