Heim joints, tie rod ends (aka TRE's) are great components to use to build custom suspension links, tie rods or drag links. Combine them with jam nuts weld in tube inserts (and in the case of heims, misalignment bushings) for a easy solution to build a complete link.
Rod ends are formed from a heat treated alloy steel that is coated with a protective coating for corrosion resistance. Inside the body is a teflon/kevlar self-lubricating race to allow smooth motion of the center ball, which is formed from 52100 heat treated bearing steel. Heims are not D.O.T. approved.
 

Dimensions: 3/4'-16 thread, 5/8" bolt hole (40,572 lb static load rating), 13 degrees of misalignment.

This heim is a great choice for steering and suspension links. Commonly used in steering applications, upper links and upper as well as lower links on vehicles running tires 35" or less.

 

Dimensions: 3/4"-16 thread, 3/4" bolt hole (28,081 lb static load rating), 14 degrees of misalignment.

This heim is a decent choice when a 3/4" bolt is required and the 3/4" x 5/8" heim (above) will not work with a particular application. The static load is not a misprint.

 

Dimensions: 7/8"-14 thread, 3/4" bolt hole (55,692 lb static load rating), 12 degrees of misalignment.

This heim is a excellent choice for suspension link and hydraulic steering rams when running one ton axles and 37" or larger tires.

Moog Tie rod ends are are great solution for steering when the vehicle is driven on the street and the components need to be D.O.T approved. TRE's housings are forged from specific materials and then heat treated, obtaining the most desirable grain structure for strength and durability.

Boulder Bushings are a great solution when heims are not desired in linked suspension systems. Boulder Bushings graphite impregnated polyurethane aids in reducing 'road noise' from being transferred up into the frame of the vehicle.

Misalignment spacers provide room between the heim joint and mounting surface to allow the heim its full range of travel. Required in most heim joint applications, misalignment spacers prevent heim joint from binding against mount surfaces and damaging the components. Misalignment spacers can also be used to adjust the clearance between the link and other surfaces.
